Inconel 600 or the UNS N06600 is an alloy created from the balanced combination of nickel and chromium. This particular alloy comes with features such as great oxidation resistance when kept at high temperatures. Apart from this, the Inconel 600 has excellent carburizing resistance & thrives well even when kept in high-chloride environments.

This alloy is also used for cryogenic requirements while providing elevated temperatures close to the 2000 degree Fahrenheit range. The chromium content provides this alloy enhanced resistance to different sulfur compounds or oxidizing environments.

 Key Features:

  • Corrosive Media Resistance:

Inconel 600 is resistant to different types of corrosive agents. Its high chromium content allows it better resistance as compared to Alloy 200 or 201.

  • Immune to Stress Corrosion:

This nickel-chromium alloy demonstrates high immunity to cracking that comes from chlorine stress corrosion.

  • Organic Acid Resistance:

The alloy 600 shows excellent resistance to corrosive organic acids like formic, acetic, or stearic acid.

  • Resists Ammonia Atmospheres:

Inconel 600 also shows resistance to atmospheres that house a high amount of ammonia, nitrogen, or carburizing gases.

Possible Alternative Grades:

  • Inconel 188: This Inconel alloy is fabricated for aerospace applications and commercially used gas turbines.
  • Inconel 230: The alloy 230 is used to create plates and sheets to be used primarily for aerospace, power, industrial heating, as well as chemical processing firms.
  • Inconel 617: Incorporated primarily in the ASME Boiler or pressure vessels, this alloy packs in a strengthened solution in the solid form. It flaunts features such as high weldability to be incorporated in reactors for molten salt.
  • Inconel 625: The Inconel 625 alloy brings in features such as good weldability and acid resistance to be used as an Inconel 600 alternative.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What is the use of Inconel alloy?

The Inconel alloy is known to resist highly intense temperatures, which make it popular in the present-day aerospace industry. It is used in jet engines. When exposed to high heat, the alloy creates a protective layer of oxide, making it resistant to heat.

  • Is Inconel alloy similar to steel?

When talking about Inconel alloys, Inconel 625 possesses a high range of tensile strength from 103 to 160 Ksi. It is way higher when compared to stainless steel tensile strength, which is 73.2 Ksi.

  • Does Inconel face rusting issues?

Inconel alloys tend to have embedded features such as oxidation and corrosion resistance. They function perfectly in any extreme environment that brings in high heat and pressure.
